Step 1: Login!

 For ease and simplicity, I’ve put a link to “login” on the footer.  If you look on the bottom of any of the paperpetual.com pages, you’ll see web design via Christiane Moore [       ].  If you hover over the brackets you’ll see the login link.  Click it and type in your email and password.

Step 2: Add a new post!

 On the Wordpress Dashboard to the left, you’ll see Posts > Add New. Click it.

Step 3: Write your post!

First, add a title.

Next, add the image(s).  Click the Upload/Insert > Image symbol, the square icon that is highlighted above.

Click Select Files and find the images you’d like to upload.  You can select multiple files by holding Shift or Ctrl.  Click Select and upload.  If you’re adding multiple images, click “show” next to the first image you’d like to add.  If you’ve only uploaded one image, the Add an Image window will come up automatically.

Add your image’s title.  Make sure Link URL is set to “File URL.”  Choose which Size you’d like.  The window width of paperpetual.com is 800px, and the actual entry width is more like 700px.  As a general rule, keep your image size in the 600s range or smaller.  When you’re finished, click Save all changes.

You can either choose the Medium size, or choose Large and resize it after you’ve saved the changes…

To adjust the large size:

In Visual Mode, Click on the image and then click on the Edit Image icon that appears in the upper left-hand corner.

Click on the Advanced Settings tab.  Then, choose a percentage decrease while keeping an eye on the Size (highlighted in yellow).  When finished, click Update.

Click over to the HTML tab (highlighted in yellow above).  The link code around your image should read something like <a href=”http://www.paperpetual.com/wp-content…..”>.  Add rel=”lytebox” title=”your image’s title” between the a and href, like I’ve done above.  This is the tag that links the image to the lytebox display.  If you’re posting multiple images that you’d like to be viewed in the same lytebox with < Prev and Next > navigation, use rel=”lytebox[your_set_name]” obviously adding your own set name.

When you’re finished editing the link tags around your images, click back over the to Visual tab.

Type your Description or whatever blurb you’d like below the image.

Step 4: Add Tags, choose your Category, and change your Publish Date if you’d like to backdate your post at all.

Tags are kind of important even though they don’t show up on the Artists > Recent Work pages.  When people Google for things, the tags that are attached to different posts act as search keywords that can come up on these Google searches.  This in turn can earn site traffic!  Similarly, the search function on paperpetual.com searches tags as well as posts.

Last but not least, and maybe most importantly, make sure you’ve checked your Category.

Click “Publish” and you’re done!

So I recently started working at a daycare center for children aged infant through 12 years old in Webster, NY.  I’m officially the Kindergarten-Wrap teaching assistant and I absolutely love my kids.  It’s great to be paid to teach and play with children, and especially to make artwork with them.  There will be many amazing collaborations with my students that I will post, I am sure of it.  This is my collaboration with Alex Mangano, age 5 of his idea for a holiday super hero.  Wearing a red cape, the hero is in his submarine complete with a cat keeper, a fish keeper and a sea turtle keeper.   Alex described him as “shooting stuff out to make the holidays!”  I love my job.

If you know me, you probably know that one of my favorite hobbies is making gifs and utilizing them on the internet.  Gifs, as you might or might not be aware, are animated image files that use a series of single frames linked together to form a moving picture.  They can be created from scratch, with the gifmaker drawing a series of frames.  Or, perhaps more popular, they can be made from pre-created video clips collected from various sources.  Different people have different gif tastes.  Some collect gifs from the animated movies of their childhood; others prefer gifs from popular televisions shows.  Still others like gifs that showcase one particular person, going to great lengths to create gifs of a single celebrity or politician.

This post is going to get pretty lengthy, so I’m splitting it up into multiple pages. On page 2 you’ll find a brief explanation of why .gifs come in handy on the internet, and page 3 will contain the true how-to, with step-by-step instructions and screencaps teaching you how to make gifs!

Quick disclaimer: obviously these gifs aren’t your property or anything since you’re making them from somebody else’s initial genius, so don’t try to sell them or use them for anything other than your own amusement or whatever. Also, I’ve only ever made gifs on my Mac, so this is an Apple gif-making tutorial.
